Penis Size: A Growing Concern for Men

Penis size both width and length are a male preocupationPossibly the most pervasive and least understood of all sexual myths are those surrounding penis size.  From an early age, men are given the message that “bigger is better”, and that penis size is the most important part of sex for a male.  Many companies exploit this obsession with size by advertising a variety of “male enhancement” products.

“[Men] equate masculinity and power with penis size,” according to Dr. Ira Sharlip, a clinical professor of urology at the University of California at San Francisco, and president of the International Society for Sexual Medicine.
Misinformation and misconceptions abound on the subject of penis size and it can be difficult to know what is reality and what is rumor.

Here are some facts about penis size.

  • The average length of an erect penis is between 5.1 inches and 5.9 inches.
  • The flaccid male organ averages around three and a half inches.
  • Contrary to popular belief, there is no correlation between race and ethnicity with penis size.

Studies have shown conclusively that a majority of women place little to no importance on their partner’s penis size.  In fact, many women find a large penis to be painful during intercourse. While there is debate regarding the

role penis size plays in sex, it can be determined conclusively that penis size is nowhere near as important

to sex and sexual health as the media can make it appear.
